Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Accountant for an educational nonprofit organization in New York City. If you are a nonprofit accounting professional passionate about expanding high-quality and equitable educational opportunities for children of all ages, this is the opportunity for you! This is a hybrid role, requiring two in-office days on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Position Overview
In this role, the Nonprofit Staff Accountant will report to the Controller and support the accounting functions of the organization, including processing accounts payable and receivable, recording payroll allocations, reconciling accounts, and maintaining electronic records.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and compliant accounting of transactions in alignment with organizational procedures.
- Reconcile bank accounts, accounts payable, and fixed assets to maintain financial accuracy.
- Collaborate with team members and leadership to uphold compliance and organizational standards.
- Independently identify, gather, and utilize necessary resources to execute assigned tasks efficiently.
- Document and streamline workflows to improve operational efficiency.
- Perform ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned to contribute to team success.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 2+ years of nonprofit accounting, finance, or business experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Sage Intacct is a major plus!
- Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Teamwork: Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others.
- Integrity: Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high ethical standards.
- Mission-Driven: Passionate about working on a team committed to making a difference.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
Compensation and Benefits:
This role offers a starting hourly pay of $38-$43/hr. DOE, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance; an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP); and commuter and transit benefits for those working 30+ hours per week.
