Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Temporary Finance & Budget Specialist for our client, a mission-driven organization undergoing a critical budgeting and financial review period. This is a short-term, project-based engagement (estimated 1–2 months, with possible extension) designed to provide high-level finance leadership support alongside hands-on accounting execution. This is a remote, full-time opportunity.

This engagement is expected to support the Executive Director and Senior Staff Accountant during a high-impact budget finalization, forecasting, and reporting cycle. Prior experience with Questica budget software and grant-based accounting is required.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Work within Questica budget software to review, validate, and finalize a nearly completed organizational budget, ensuring accuracy and making final adjustments as needed.

• Support preparation of budget materials for Board review.

• Oversee and validate the FY2025 forecasting process, reviewing existing forecasts and refining projections to assess budget positioning.

• Compile and assess financial data across AMS/CMS projects, identifying amounts paid to date and estimated remaining costs to completion for Board reporting.

• Coordinate with external partners to gather and reconcile project-related financial information.

• Provide hands-on support to the Senior Staff Accountant with month-end and year-end close activities.

• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts as assigned.

• Assist with grant accruals, pre-audit adjustments, and technical accounting questions.

• Assist with the annual audit process.

• Ensure timely and accurate vendor payments by managing the AvidPay process, including invoice review, check processing, ACH entry, and online vendor payments, with follow-through to confirm receipt.

• Support organizational knowledge management and documentation by capturing SOPs related to budgeting, forecasting, and accounting processes addressed during this engagement.

Qualifications:

• Required hands-on experience with Questica budget software.

• Demonstrated experience working with grant-funded organizations and grant accounting/accruals.

• Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for boards.

• Experience supporting month-end/year-end close and audit preparation.

Compensation:

This position offers a competitive pay rate range of $38-$40/hour.
