Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Political Press Director for a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on housing policy and advocacy. This is a hybrid position based in New York City, with required in-person engagement during active legislative and government sessions.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This role leads frontline political communications for a high-impact housing policy organization operating in a complex government environment. The Political Press Director will shape public narratives, engage directly with media, and support policy and advocacy efforts through earned media and rapid response communications. This position carries high visibility and intensity during legislative cycles and major policy moments.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media across print, digital, broadcast, and social platforms
  • Proactively pitch stories, draft press materials, and coordinate interviews and briefings
  • Lead rapid response efforts by monitoring news cycles and addressing emerging narratives
  • Develop earned media strategies aligned with legislative and advocacy priorities
  • Draft op-eds, statements, and stakeholder messaging translating complex policy into clear narratives
  • Collaborate closely with policy, research, executive, and government affairs partners

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional experience in housing policy, government relations, or political communications
  • Working knowledge of housing regulations, legislative processes, and public policy environments
  • Demonstrated success building and maintaining strong media relationships
  • Exceptional written communication skills with a clear, persuasive voice
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, fast-moving political environments

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This role offers an annual salary range of $125,000–$150,000, along with full medical benefits, a 401(k) plan, and additional benefits provided by the organization. Work schedules are flexible outside of active legislative cycles, with extended availability required during periods of heightened policy activity.
