Scion Nonprofit an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Accountant for a faith-based nonprofit organization located in Philadelphia, PA! This incredible opportunity works collaboratively with senior staff, contributing to the organization’s fulfilling mission. This full-time opportunity is for immediate hire and allows for a hybrid (onsite & remote) setting!

Position Summary:

Our client seeks a Nonprofit Accountant to assist senior staff with the accounting for all trusts, including planned giving, restricted gifts and endowments, and donor advised funds. Other needs, such as remittance slips, annual reports, and additional projects, may also be assigned. Reporting to a Senior Manager, this position will work collaboratively across the organization at all levels to contribute to their exciting, meaningful work!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the filing of Annual State Annuity Filings, including quarterly filings of Annuity agreements, reports and remittances.
  • Analyze and assist in managing restricted gifts and endowment funds, including downloading custodian investment statements, entering into internal management software, and reconciling with Senior Accountant records.
  • Utilize Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) to prepare and revise trial balances; utilize MS Excel reports to reconcile with GP general ledger monthly.
  • Collaborate with A/P department for endowment income distributions with remittance letters; update internal calendar and database with payment information; maintain prompt check mailings, electronic funds transfers and wires, transactions and subsequent reconciliation.
  • Record all perpetual and third-party trusts; prepare cash receipt journal entries for incoming checks; create journal entries for beneficial interest; communicate with external institutions for obtaining statements and other necessary documentation.
  • Partner with planned giving custodian to ensure precise calculations and prompt documentation of new gift annuity agreements and terminations throughout multiple software platforms.
  • Aid in the fiscal year-end closing process regarding endowments and trusts; accurate calculations of FASB liabilities using planned giving-specific software; make necessary adjustments to general ledger transactions.
  • Balance and reconcile all accounts involving planned giving, trusts, pooled income funding, and other accounts with custody investment statements.
  • Create journal entries maintaining the division between principal and income in alignment with trust accounting standards; evaluate accounts as necessary.
  • Hold records in accordance with record retention policies.
  • Aid other departments in accounting-related tasks on occasion dependent on the needs of the organization.
  • Maintain and update systems and procedures on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications:
  • Genuine dedication to the faith-based mission of the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in finance or accounting.
  • Experience with accounting principles, standards, and skills.
  • Proficiency in financial data analysis and management; especially with interacting with a high volume of confidential data.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Robust organizational skills, including maintaining timelines, aligning with strict deadlines, and sustaining accuracy.
  • Skilled in MS Office programs, especially Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge and experience of planned giving software and instruments, including but not limited to: Crescendo, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, PG Calc, SharePoint, and GiftWrap is preferred but not required.
  • The selected employee will perform a background check upon an offer of employment being made.
