Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an Interim Deputy Director of Operations for our client, a legal aid nonprofit providing support to underserved communities, located in Norristown, Philadelphia! This is an exciting onsite contract to hire opportunity to join a supportive team and organization!
 
OVERVIEW
The Interim Deputy Director of Operations is a key member of the executive team and will share supervisory responsibility alongside the Director, Director of Community Engagement, Director of Development, Director of Communications, and a team of attorneys. This role will help guide daily finance and accounting, information technology, human resources, and facilities operations. 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Direct all aspects of operations, including in the areas of finance and accounting, information technology, human resources, and facilities.
  • Ensure, most significantly through a monthly cost allocation process, that casework is accurately assigned to appropriate funding sources and that accounts payable and accounts receivable operations function smoothly and effectively.
  • Identify and employ online and automated processes and new technology to enhance efficiency of operations.
  • Serve as point person for the annual audit.
  • Play a key role on the executive team and in collaboration with the Executive Director and Chief Counsel. provide input on organizational policy, resource allocation, budgets, and day-to-day decision-making.
  • Work with Chief Counsel and management team to develop appropriate and meaningful measurements of staff performance and develop methods to use outcomes data to assess the impact of programs and promote its work.
  • Directly supervise and periodically evaluate the Finance and Accounting Manager, the Human Resources Manager, the Grants and Compliance Specialist, and 2-3 other supervisory staff
  • Contribute significantly to a program-wide strategic planning process, which will set the course for the future direction of the service delivery and operations of, and which will seek to create and nurture a culture that values excellence, energy, innovation, collaboration, respect, trust, and accountability.
  • Supply budgeting, financial and staffing input to the Development Director for development proposals
  • Participate in management meetings and report on project progress.
  • Consult with staff and local management on day-to-day operational issues including those relating to grants and compliance, technology, and facility needs
  • Assist the Executive Director and Human Resources manager in the recruitment and retention of excellent staff and orient new staff to policies and grants and contractual requirements.
  • Contribute to initiatives that will enhance and advance commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining Employment and Fiscal/Accounting procedures and manuals.
  • Participate in Board meetings (and Committee meetings as needed) and review and provide feedback on Treasurer’s reports to be delivered at meetings.
  • Engage with other providers of civil legal assistance to persons with limited income in Pennsylvania and nationally to ensure that benefits from the experiences of similar programs and adopts best practices.
  • Abide by all applicable professional standards of ethics and practice.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the Executive Director

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
  •  Advanced degree required, J.D. and bar admission highly preferred. 
  • Extensive years of experience in a nonprofit legal services or similar environment
  • Management experience, preferably in a nonprofit legal services environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Case Management Software, online legal research tools. SAGE 50 is a plus!
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning, implementing, and evaluating organization-wide management initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well with a wide range of people. 
  • Strong coaching, teaching, training, organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to take initiative in development and completion of projects.
  • Demonstrated competence in working with diverse clients, client communities and organizations.  Strong sense of customer service and the ability to follow through on projects and deliverables. 

COMPENSATION
The hourly rate for this position is $50/hr - $62/hr. DOE as well as health, dental, vision and other benefits! This position works on an amazing team and makes an incredible impact on people in your community!
