Scion Nonprofit an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Human Resources Manager for a long-standing nonprofit organization in Chicago, IL! This incredible opportunity works collaboratively in the Human Resources Department, contributing to the organization’s fulfilling community development mission and providing other resources to the local community in need. This full-time, onsite opportunity is for immediate hire!

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Administration & Operations, the Human Resources Manager will provide direct supervision, evaluation, and direction to an HR Generalist. This individual will aid in recruitment and onboarding efforts for new staff, strategize for and enact HR department goals and processes, and administer employee benefits, compensation, and payroll. This position will ensure HR compliance across the organization and continuously contribute to the refinement of the organization’s policies and practices in support of their inspiring mission, vision, and values!

Responsibilities:

  • Directly oversee, evaluate, and instruct an HR Generalist.
  • Carry out the recruitment and onboarding of new staff direct reports as needed, ensuring alignment with organization instructions as outlined in the organization’s policies and manuals; includes completing 90-day and common date evaluations.
  • Create, enact, and maintain HR plans and processes for all staff.
  • Collaborate with supervisory staff in the recruitment and onboarding process of all staff.
  • Contribute to the HR Department’s strategies, including developing goals and processes for the department.
  • Maintain and ensure HR compliance throughout the organization, including benefits plans, 401(k), payroll, unemployment, licensing and employment agreements, FMLA, ADA, worker’s compensation regulations, ACA, and OSHA.
  • Oversee the management of benefits, compensation, and payroll for the organization’s staff including management of PTO, document tracking, and onboarding procedures.
  • Design and implement a staff development plan, including training guidance, termination & disciplinary policies and procedures, performance improvement plans (PIPs), legal guidance, evaluation plans, employee recognition and development, and hiring practices; identify staff development needs and allocate resources towards these efforts.
  • Oversee Human Resources Information System (HRIS) – ADP, including all aspects of HR administration.
  • Confer with the CEO and VP of Administration & Operations in the organizational authorization of staff actions.
  • Collaboratively with the VP of Administration & Operations, Chief Financial Officer, Personnel Committee, and Chief Executive Officer, engage in the continuous evaluation and refinement of the organization’s policies and practices, salary and wage program, and merit increase system.
  • Assist in the coordination of organization-wide events in conjunction with the administrative team; includes a yearly meeting, yearly retreat, and other routine meetings.
  • Complete other related tasks on an as-needed basis.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent related experience).
  • 5+ years’ experience in nonprofit Human Resources, including supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Robust customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS software and MS Office.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a car required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours on an occasional basis.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English & Spanish preferred.


Compensation & Benefits:
This exciting opportunity offers a salary in the range of $90,000 to $110,000 in addition to offering a robust benefits package! This package includes health, dental, and vision insurance (specific details available upon request), life insurance benefits, and a 401(k) plan.
