Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Associate Director of Human Resources for our client, a globally impactful Nonprofit at the center of biodiversity, conservation, and human rights and working in solidarity with Indigenous peoples and movements worldwide. This is an exciting, Hybrid, Direct-Hire, opportunity based out of Seattle, WA!

As the Associate Director of Human Resources, you will report to the Senior Managing Director of Operations and ensure that the people programs align with the organization's mission, values, and work. This is a newly created role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In coordination with the Senior Managing Director, Operations, implement the human resources strategy that aligns with and supports the overall business strategy.
  • Create processes, policies, and procedures that support the organizational human resources strategy.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to senior management regarding Human Resources best practices that align with the culture of  the organization.
  • Ensure HR programs comply with relevant labor laws and regulations, and align with best practices across various countries and regions of operation.
  • Foster continuous improvement by proactively maintaining HR policies and procedures and updating them based on best practices and trends. 
  • Oversee compensation programs and processes, both domestic and global, including periodic updates on pay ranges, gathering external benchmark data, and facilitating compensation adjustments as needed.
  • In collaboration with Finance team, manages applicable witholdings in the payroll process.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from internal and external stakeholders related to HR compliance, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and coach to team members, managers, and leaders on all people-related concerns.
  • Create and manage programs to enhance team members’ capacity including professional development, new manager training, and performance management that respects and integrates Indigenous knowledge and practices.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting team engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Implement and manage employee relations programs, such as diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives in culturally appropriate ways that demonstrate a commitment to our team.
  • Facilitate conversations to foster shared understanding and connects the various cultural, geographic, and linguistic frameworks across a globally diverse team.
  • Proactively identify and address employee relations concerns, including conflict resolution, complaints, coaching , and workplace investigations.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and team members in handling performance-related issues and conflicts in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Mentor and coache team members to enhance their skills, knowledge, and professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or Business.
  • 5+ years working in Human Resources, preferably in an NGO setting with a focus on Indigenous rights and DEI frameworks.
  • Experience working with or within Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated understanding of decolonization principles and the ability to integrate them into HR practices.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous cultures, land care practices, and respect for traditional knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of global and domestic HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Lived experience in areas outside the United States and Europe or in rural/remote settings.
  • Lived experience and conversant comfort with an Indigenous Ways and Means approach of practicing reciprocity.
  • Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or HRCI Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
  • Fluency in one or more Indigenous languages or Indigenous lingua francas.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The salary range for this role is $140k -$155k annually plus Health, Dental, Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, 12 Paid Holidays, 2 Paid Volunteer Days, 3 Personal Days, and the ability to accumulate 6 weeks of PTO and Paid Sick Leave!
