Scion Executive Search has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a highly strategic VP of Advocacy & Threats (VP) for a highly regarded $30M nonprofit dedicated to preserving native wildlife and their habitats throughout the Americas. This full-time position is 100% remote and offers a salary of $125,000-$150,000 per year DOE and a robust benefits package, including a 401k matching program.
The Role: The Vice President of Advocacy and Threats (VP) will be a senior leadership team member and will manage a team of ten people to help reduce threats to birds across the Americas. The VP will cultivate partnerships to enhance understanding of conservation issues through habitat conservation strategies and advocacy. The VP will manage a team of 10 conservation advocacy program professionals. The VP will lead the organizational mission by informing and educating policymakers and resource managers about conservation needs and solutions. Additionally, the program influences government agencies and multilateral institutions on policy, resource allocation, and international conventions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a team of approximately ten and integrate this team with regional teams and external partners with whom we work closely; ensure that grant deliverables are completed in a timely manner; understand and track departmental budgets.
- Develop a plan to address regional threats to birds per our strategy and work with our regional teams to deliver positive conservation outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with partners, activists/members, and the media.
- Advocate policy positions effectively to a wide range of audiences.
- Regularly communicate updates and developments through periodic reporting mechanisms and appropriate internal and external communication channels.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of the federal regulatory and legislative process and legal, legislative, regulatory, and policy developments affecting birds.
- Represent our organization at networking events and other meetings such as lobbyist groups, luncheons, presentations, and meetings with interest groups.
- Foster a cooperative, communicative, collaborative, and equitable organizational culture and structure that promotes teamwork and trust.
- Help to develop a national network of partners and correspondents.
- Collaborate with the Development Team to support and participate in fundraising.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of non-profit lobbying rules, C4 operations, and compliance issues.
- Experience managing and leading a team.
- Proficiency in crafting clear and articulate written content.
- Understanding of how to work successfully with the media.
- An understanding of essential legal tools for conservation such as NEPA, ESA, etc.
- Ability to build and deliver an output-focused strategy across a team.
- Basic knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
- Willingness to travel regularly, primarily in Virginia and Washington, DC.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S., U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- A passion for and knowledge of birds and conservation is highly desirable.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This impactful and highly rewarding full-time opportunity offers a competitive base salary of $125,000 to $150,000 DOE, plus a robust benefits package that includes health, vision, employer-paid dental, pre-tax savings plans, 401K matching, vacation, US and company holidays, sick time, and more.
