Scion Executive Search has been retained to conduct an immediate search for the incoming Development Director on behalf of our incredible client, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. With a commitment to enhancing the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and striving for a future free from its grasp, this cutting-edge nonprofit organization has provided tens of millions in research funding to understand the causes of and to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. This full-time position is immediately available for candidates in the NYC Metro area and will be based in a newly established office space, just a short ten-minute commute from the esteemed Fisher Center Lab at Rockefeller University.

ABOUT FISHER CENTER FOR ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH FOUNDATION:
Situated in the prestigious Upper East Side of New York City, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation (the Fisher Center Foundation) is dedicated to financing cutting-edge research initiatives. Its primary focus is supporting the work of globally recognized scientists at the Fisher Center lab, located at Rockefeller University, as well as at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the Imagine Institute of Brain and Spine in Paris, France. With a legacy spanning over 25 years, the Foundation has played a pivotal role in advocating for private funding and backing groundbreaking research that has laid the foundation for contemporary investigations into Alzheimer’s disease.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Development oversees all fundraising efforts and cultivates relationships with donors, prospects, researchers, and financial partners. This individual will collaborate with affiliated universities to coordinate virtual and in-person lab tours, engage donors and prospects to nurture continued support, and actively pursue opportunities for financial backing through grants, bequests, and sponsorships. In direct collaboration with the Executive Director and working closely with the Information Program Director and Creative Marketing Manager, this individual will be tasked with generating, refining, and disseminating fundraising marketing content for both internal and external audiences. This content will be circulated across the Foundation's various platforms including publications, social media channels, and digital tools.

This pivotal role involves collaborating with leadership to set ambitious fundraising objectives and craft strategic approaches aimed at significantly bolstering resources for Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative disease research. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of the scientific aspects of current research, breakthroughs, and medications. They will feel at ease participating in and contributing to discussions with scientists, subject matter experts, donors, and families personally affected by Alzheimer’s disease.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to devise strategic fundraising plans that support annual goals.
  • Outline, develop, and deliver proposals for the department's annual budget review and approval.
  • Strategize, develop, and execute engaging direct mail campaigns and online fundraising initiatives year-round, also overseeing renewal, special appeal, and acquisition campaigns.
  • Arrange and conduct visits to prospective donors to determine giving potential, gauge opportunities, and secure contributions.
  • Build, cultivate, and execute at least twelve major gift solicitations and planned giving discussions annually.
  • Maintain regular communication with donors and stakeholders, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity in interactions with those who have experienced the loss of loved ones due to Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Advocate for and raise awareness of the Fisher Center Foundation at conferences and events, fostering connections with potential donors and strengthening existing donor relationships.
  • Organize and facilitate virtual and in-person laboratory tours and presentations quarterly or as required, specifically tailored for top-tier funders.
  • Manage donation tracking and pledge collection in Salesforce, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial records for precise IRS filings.
  • Monitor direct mail campaigns to analyze cost-effectiveness in fundraising, ensuring timely completion of all reporting requirements and electronic documentation in constituent records.
  • Manage the comprehensive calendar of deadlines for proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry; prepare drafts to ensure timely submission.
  • Maintain up-to-date case statements, proposal templates, and reports that are easily adaptable for tailored funder outreach.
  • Work with the Creative Marketing Manager to develop marketing strategies for fundraising, oversee registration applications, and monitor pledges.
  • Coordinate with university development and research teams to foster relationships, publicize research studies for fundraising, write press releases, and pitch media for coverage and engagement.
  • Oversee and track foundation awards and ratings, actively pursuing new opportunities to enhance the foundation's status.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or PhD from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of proven expertise in relationship building and communication strategy development with a demonstrated history of securing major gifts, ideally within Alzheimer’s or other neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Proficiency in volunteer supervision, goal setting, project prioritization, budget management, and accountability measures implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability in crafting persuasive cultivation materials, donor acknowledgments, and other philanthropic content; proficient in writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Strong capability in fostering lasting business and donor connections that drive organizational growth and financial objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and Asana.
  • Willingness to travel locally and out of state to meet with donors as needed.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This dynamic opportunity empowers you to drive meaningful change by leading the development program for a nonprofit organization with substantial reach! Compensation includes a competitive salary ranging from $130,000 to $170,000; discretionary annual bonus; comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and a 401(k) plan with employer match for all eligible employees along with paid time off and annual holidays.
