Scion Executive Search has been retained to identify the incoming Chief Development Officer on behalf of our impactful client, Senior Resource Association, the lead agency for home and community-based care for the elderly in Indian River County. This hybrid executive leadership role, situated in the picturesque Vero Beach, FL, is available for immediate hire.

ABOUT SENIOR RESOURCE ASSOCIATION:
Since 1974, Senior Resource Association (SRA) has advocated for the independence, well-being, and dignity of older adults in Indian River County. It serves as the lead agency for home and community-based services for seniors and adults age 18+ with functional/cognitive disabilities.

SRA also acts as the Community Transportation Coordinator for Indian River and Martin counties, as designated by the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged, and has operated Indian River County’s fare-free public transit system, GoLine, since 1990.

Understanding the challenges of aging, SRA is committed to offering healthy meals, daily care options for those unable to stay home alone, respite breaks for caregivers, in-home senior supportive services, as well as transportation for all in the community. Their goal is to keep seniors living in their homes as long as safely possible.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Directly reporting to the President/CEO, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for overseeing all activities of philanthropic giving across operating, capital, and endowment funds. Collaborating closely with the President/CEO, as well as key volunteers and staff, they provide leadership, management, and coordination for fundraising endeavors, marketing, and communications. In this role, the CDO will supervise three direct reports, the Director of Marketing and Events, the Director of Communications, and an Administrative Assistant, to ensure organizational fundraising objectives are met.

The CDO oversees the entirety of the fund development program, employing diverse strategies to secure funds. This includes identifying potential supporters, cultivating relationships, making direct solicitations for major gifts, planned gifts, and annual fund campaigns, overseeing the pursuit of grants from private foundations and government bodies, and managing fundraising events such as the SRA golf tournament and bingo luncheon.

RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW:
  • Create and execute an annual development plan in partnership with the President/CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Head the efforts to forge, grow, and maintain lasting connections with donors, encompassing the development and execution of donor recognition initiatives and prompt, pertinent communication with donors to reinforce their commitment to SRA's mission.
  • Create personalized cultivation and stewardship plans for individual donors and prospects, and actively engage in soliciting major gifts.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Finance Officer and Program Directors to identify areas suitable for grant-funded support; oversee departmental pursuit of grant funding.
  • Cultivate relationships with key personnel and trustees, ensuring timely fulfillment of grant reporting obligations.
  • Conduct research and cultivate donors interested in estate planning, including bequests, charitable remainder trusts, annuities, and other planned giving strategies.
  • Collaborate with the President/CEO to establish an overarching strategy and supervise the implementation of any campaigns approved by the board.
  • Secure funds for general operations and diverse programs through annual fund and underwriting efforts.  
  • Explore alternative funding avenues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor’s degree is mandatory, an advanced degree or CFRE is desired, along with a minimum of ten years of progressive fundraising experience in a leadership capacity.
  • A sincere dedication to serving the senior community and a strong alignment with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • A positive, dynamic, and approachable demeanor, coupled with a robust work ethic, team-oriented mindset, and the capability to adapt readily to evolving situations.
  • Demonstrate innovative strategic thinking, self-drive, dedication, and the capacity to execute plans aimed at advancing the organization's mission.
  • Exceptional proficiency in record keeping and organizational abilities.
  • Availability to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends if necessary, to accommodate donor events and meetings.
  • Proficient in grant research, writing, and management, with a demonstrated track record of securing funding from diverse sources.
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels of management, as well as vendors and the public.
  • Proficient in multitasking and adept at managing a variety of personalities from diverse backgrounds, spanning both service-oriented and professional environments.
  • Proficiency in computer skills encompassing word processing, spreadsheet management, and presentation software utilization, with the ability to adapt to evolving technological tools and platforms.
  • Previous experience with Fundraising database, Raiser’s Edge.  

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This exceptional full-time hybrid opportunity offers the chance to make a significant impact on crucial issues within the realm of Senior Resource Association. Along with a competitive salary ranging from $100,000 to $160,000, this role comes with access to a comprehensive benefits package.
