Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Director of Development for a growing nonprofit organization dedicated to criminal justice reform in New York City. This full-time position works on-site in Brooklyn.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Development is vital in elevating our client’s mission and securing the resources needed to fulfill it. This hands-on senior leader will develop, implement, and oversee strategic fundraising and communication campaigns to reach ambitious revenue goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Leadership & Management:
  • Provide visionary leadership for the development team.
  • Manage and develop staff, fostering collaboration across departments (program, finance, operations).
  • Oversee stewardship of professionals’ councils and philanthropy groups.
  • Report regularly to senior leadership and the Board on fundraising progress.

Fundraising Strategy & Execution:
  • Develop, implement, and oversee strategic fundraising campaigns across various channels.
    • Major gifts
    • Foundation grants
    • Corporate partnerships
    • Monthly giving
    • Special events (including annual spring event)
    • Special appeals
    • Peer-to-peer initiatives
  • Conduct research, cultivate relationships, and develop proposals to secure major gifts and corporate sponsorships.
  • Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to build a major donor pipeline and cultivate relationships.
  • Work with the Grants Manager to identify and secure foundation grants.
  • Manage all aspects of special events, from conception to execution.
Communications & Outreach:
  • Collaborate with the PR firm to shape the communication strategy.
  • Create fundraising and public education materials.
  • Leverage digital platforms to engage donors and build an audience.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7-10+ years of development and fundraising for nonprofit organizations.
  • Bachelor or advanced degree.
  • Deep appreciation for our client’s mission and the population served.
  • Experience in board, committee, and volunteer management.
  • Proven track record of exceeding fundraising goals.
  • Possess media relations and public speaking expertise.
  • Excellent project management, writing, research, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with database management software for development and communication operations.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
In addition to a base salary of $130,000 - $140,000 (DOE), this incredible role provides a comprehensive full-time employee benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 403B plan, and the opportunity to make an impact in the lives of historically marginalized communities in New York City.
