Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Accountant (Nonprofit) on behalf of our client, an established nonprofit organization centered on social impact initiatives that provide financial support to small business owners in Oakland, CA! This is a wonderful, full-time, hybrid (1-2 days in office), direct-hire opportunity with a dedicated, mission-driven, and experienced team addressing racial and gender wealth gaps!

The Senior Accountant (Nonprofit) will be responsible for performing complex, routine accounting transactions while also preparing reports, analyses, schedules, and reconciliations for this growing organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with financial reporting ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, GAAP, and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support the annual external audit by preparing audit request items
  • Produce and improve financial statements and reports for internal audiences.
  • Develop and implement new policies and procedures to improve coordination between program and finance staff.
  • Identify and implement process improvements including the introduction of new software.
  • Assist with budgeting and planning process by collaborating with program leadership to integrate program plans into budgets.
  • Generate financial reports to submit to government, corporate, and foundation grants
  • Perform lending capital compliance reporting.
  • Assist with reconciling the lending portfolio in the accounting system.
  • Apply communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to support the procurement process in alignment with the organization’s policies.
  • Assist program staff in drafting contracts.
  • Communicate recommendations to improve as well as implement procurement policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with the CFO, troubleshoot IT issues for internal staff members with support of the outsourced IT company.

Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience in Accounting or Business Administration specifically in the nonprofit industry.
  • Proven professional experience in loan accounting.
  • Knowledge of Community Development Finance Institutions is highly preferred.
  • Software fluency in Accounting software such as QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP.
  • Proven track record in working with dynamic teams and projects utilizing analytical and communication skills.
  • Passion for organizations that act as direct changemakers in the Oakland community addressing racial and wealth gaps experienced by small business owners.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or other related field required.
  • CPA highly desirable.

Compensation:
This exciting direct-hire opportunity
