Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Safety Specialist in Delphos, Ohio for our client, a well-respected heavy machinery manufacturing company. This onsite, full time, direct hire role has the opportunity to make an incredible impact by continuously searching for means and methods to provide a healthy, comfortable, safe, and ergonomically friendly work environment! 

Reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager, this position will assist in monitoring and maintaining all programs processes and procedures as they relate to the health, safety, industrial hygiene, and housekeeping for their respective facilities. They will be accountable for coordinating, administrating, and monitoring environment, fire safety, and security protocols necessary to comply with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, including EPA, OSHA, NIOSH, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Safety Program:
  • Continuously refine plant safety programs, processes, policies, and procedures:
    • Manage safety committee.
    • Coordinate EMT/First Response training.
    • Conduct CPR, Tornado, and Fire training.
    • Ensure completion of Blood Borne Pathogen training.
    • Post required safety and security signs.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance with governmental agencies:
    • Federal and state OSHA & NIOSH.
    • All federal, state, and local laws.
  • Administer and improve safety, ergonomic, and health programs:
    • Ensure awareness and compliance with guidelines.
    • Maintain safe equipment operations in Ohio or Iowa facilities.
  • Coordinate monitoring and testing of work environment issues:
    • Assess noise levels, air quality, and respirator efficacy.
    • Conduct hearing tests and physical examinations.
    • Maintain Blood Borne Pathogen Standards compliance.
    • Update MSDS/Employee Right to Know logs and training.
  • Accident Investigations:
    • Conduct detailed investigations of workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
    • Compile thorough reports outlining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Corporate EHS Manager and safety staff to keep all safety programs current. 

Safety Audits:
  • Ally with safety teams to conduct routine safety audits of manufacturing area.
  • Identify and discover potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.

Safety Inspections:
  • Perform regular safety walkthroughs in the manufacturing facility to observe and address safety concerns.
  • Gather feedback, record findings, and maintain a detailed log of actions.
  • Positively relate with employees to promote a culture of safety.

Safety Reporting Entry:
  • Input data into safety management systems (PDS).
  • Utilize OSHA 300 log to maintain accurate records of safety-related activities and incidents.

Toolbox Talk Preparation and Distribution:
  • Facilitate and prepare monthly toolbox talks to translate best practices, safety guidelines, and updates.
  • Provide and update for all team members relevant safety materials and resources.

Training and Awareness:
  • Foster awareness of safety practices through regular communication channels.
  • Assist in developing and delivering safety training programs for manufacturing employees. Perform orientation level and company safety training.

Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with the Corporate EHS Coordinator, safety team, supervisors, and employees to guarantee a proactive approach to safety.
  • Liaise between manufacturing staff and safety management.

Emergency Response:
  • Contribute to the development and execution of emergency response procedures.
  • Support during emergency situations to ensure the safety of all personnel.

Environmental Tasks:
  • Assist the Corporate EHS Coordinator with tasks related to environmental matters, including air quality, storm water, solid waste, wastewater treatment, hazardous materials, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety, safety management, or comparable degree. Previous working knowledge of the primary functions of the role will be considered as equivalent to a specific degree. 
  • Commitment to safety required with a firm understanding of manufacturing processes. Prior experience a plus.
  • Experience with plant safety policies, programs, procedures, regulations, and protocols.
  • Identifying and addressing safety concerns proactively.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local safety laws and enforcement criteria.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and enforcement criteria.
  • People-centric with strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Grasp of Microsoft products, including Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This role offers a competitive salary in the range of $70,000 to $100,000, they offer an excellent benefits package, including employer-paid premiums on medical and dental insurance, 401(k), a profit-sharing program, and flexible spending accounts (FSA).
