Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Nonprofit Interim Controller for our wonderful nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a more affordable lifestyle for American families! This incredible role will focus on supporting the growing finance team and lead all day to day finance operations while overseeing a team of 2. This full time, interim position is for immediate hire. Remote local candidates in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the preference but ultimately the Interim Controller can work anywhere in the US! 

The ideal candidate is an individual with a strong background in nonprofit finance and should be experienced in driving the monthly close cycle and managing up, down, and laterally to keep the work of a small but mighty finance team running smoothly.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead all accounting functions.
  • Supervise preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, and prepare financial presentations for the Boards and other stakeholders.
  • Supervise preparation of grant budgets and financial reports, as well as monthly management of restricted funds.
  • Coordinate all audit activity and 990 preparation for all organization entities.
  • Work closely with the legal and compliance team to ensure that transactions are recorded in accordance with all IRS and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Work closely with program leaders to track departmental budgets, support quarterly budget revision process, and partner on creative solutions to unplanned variances.
  • Partner with People Operations team to accurately process biweekly payroll.
  • Supervise and support the continual development of a small accounting department. 


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP as applied to nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience with PEOs, specifically TriNet, is preferred but not required.
  • Expert user of Quickbooks Online.
  • Experience using and administering cloud-based tools such as Bill and Expensify.
  • Experience with connected entity structures and/or advocacy organizations required to file federal activity reports.
  • Adaptability for navigating ambiguous situations and evolving priorities with ease.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in maintaining impeccable organization, ensuring meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in strategic systems thinking, adept at orchestrating collaboration among stakeholders for optimal outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success working in a remote environment.
  • CPA is preferred but not required.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
In addition to an hourly range of $70-75/hr.
