Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Grants Specialist in Houston, Texas for our client, a private family foundation established in 2002. The Foundation distributes over $25 million in grants annually in support of the environment, crisis relief, health, social justice, education, and arts and culture. Reporting to the Grants Officer, this onsite, full-time opportunity supports the Foundation’s grantmaking processes and continue growth and development. This position also collaborates with the Philanthropy Committee, other family members, and Family Office staff. The right candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal skills, administrative capabilities, and a commitment to improving communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Support the Grants Officer in achieving the Foundation’s overarching goal to distribute grant dollars efficiently and effectively while demonstrably improving communities.
  • Serve as a point person for external inquiries, effectively stewarding grantor-grantee relationships.
  • Shepherd the grantmaking workflow from application through payment, including legal and financial due diligence checks, securing grant agreements, and funds distribution.
  • Manage and improve the Foundation’s grants database, analyze internal data, and generate reports.
  • Assist the Grants Officer in scheduling, preparing meeting materials, and producing meeting minutes.
  • Provide support for the review of grant applications and reports as requested.
  • Work with the Grants Officer to continuously improve processes, maintain strong governance, adhere to internal controls, and ensure legal compliance.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Foundation’s programs and priority funding areas.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information, maintaining confidentiality, and use appropriate discretion.
  • Attend and assist with board and committee meetings as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Commitment to the mission of the Foundation
  • Impeccable reputation for integrity and judgment; strong ethics and trustworthiness.
  • Philanthropy or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with database systems
  • Strong time and project management skills, including the ability to think independently, initiate action, and complete multiple projects within a set deadline.
  • Ability to work as a team player, collaboratively with the family, a small family office staff, and other partners.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to pivot easily.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3-5 years of work experience.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This role offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, in the range of $60,000 to $75,000. It also provides an excellent benefits package, including medical and dental insurance with heavily subsidized premiums, flexible and dependent care spending accounts, immediate 401(k) participation with a 4% employer match, 2 weeks of paid vacation initially, 10 days of sick leave, short- and long-term disability insurance, and basic life insurance.
