Scion Executive Search (SES) has been retained to conduct a search for a highly accomplished and motivated Senior Vice President, Development on behalf of American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. This exciting role is a full-time, hybrid opportunity that operates out of Dallas, TX.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting directly to the Region Senior Vice President of Development for the North Texas Territory, this individual is responsible for implementing effective programs in community service, education, development, and communications. The right individual for this role will make a significant impact on the lives of those they serve by collaborating with staff and volunteers, being accountable for revenue generation and community impact activities within the assigned territory. Additionally, the role ensures that the assigned markets possess the necessary talent, skills, and volunteer resources to achieve their goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide visionary and strategic direction for the organization, ensuring alignment with its mission and values.
  • Develop and effectively communicate the organization's mission, values, and goals to all stakeholders.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure efficient functioning of the Dallas market.
  • Supervise and collaborate with staff, fostering effective teamwork and maintaining high-performance standards.
  • Work with senior leadership to manage daily campaign operations and financial statements.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for revenue generation and volunteer recruitment.
  • Create and execute fundraising strategies to secure financial support for the organization, supporting a $20M budget.
  • Identify and solicit seven-figure gifts and above.
  • Expand the organization's footprint through corporate and healthcare channels.
  • Oversee the market’s budget and financial resources, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Work with volunteers to build and sustain a strong volunteer pipeline that supports the market's growth.
  • Work closely with the board of directors, providing regular updates and collaborating on strategic decisions.
  • Assist in recruiting and orienting new board members.
  • Identify and work with campaign leaders to foster their support as future legacy leaders for the organization.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Represent the organization in the community and at public events.
  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in nonprofit management.
  • Encourage and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in health education, administration, business/marketing, social science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of work experience in fundraising or outside sales, preferably with a voluntary health agency.
  • Experience in closing six-figure and higher gifts is required.
  • At least 5 years of management experience, with expertise in mentoring and developing.
  • Ability to establish and implement strategic plans across functional areas and fields in a complex and dynamic environment, effectively translating strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills to read, comprehend, and analyze goals and fundraising reports.
  • Proficient in using spreadsheet/database analysis.
  • Proven ability to delegate tasks and accomplish goals through volunteers.
  • Demonstrated background and willingness to work in an atmosphere requiring flexibility, creativity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to travel locally approximately 75% of the time, requiring access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
In addition to a competitive annual base salary of $190,000 to $200,000, this rewarding role also includes an exceptional benefits package which includes, medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and a robust retirement program with an employer match and automatic contributions. They also provide an employee assistance program, wellness program, telemedicine, and medical consultation services, a minimum of 16 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year for new employees, 12 paid holidays annually, and tuition assistance.
