Scion Nonprofit Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Foundation and Government Relations for a theatrical production organization located in New York, NY! Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position will oversee the development and execution of the overall strategy for the organization’s institutional development efforts, and for expanding and diversifying the organization's base of foundation and government support. This full-time position has the ability to operate on a remote basis with the ideal candidate residing within commuting distance to Manhattan, NY. 

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of 60+ foundation and government partners generating up to $2M in revenue annually. 
  • Develop foundation and government fundraising budget and goals. 
  • Develop and execute institutional fundraising strategy, ensuring a high level of quality in managing external relationships and internal systems and controls. 
  • Partner with seniors across the Artistic, Marketing, and Finance departments to develop grant proposals, budgets, and reports while identifying new strategies to build institutional support revenue for the organization. 
  • Lead end-to-end identification, cultivation, and solicitation of strategic partnerships from foundations and government agencies. 
  • Draft and edit reports, proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, pitch decks, and other materials for funders and prospects. 
  • Supervise one manager-level staff member. 
  • Manage prospect research for institutional donors, with an eye toward expanding the overall institutional portfolio. 
  • Stay apprised of trends in the fields of philanthropy and performing arts, regularly reviewing media sources for potential corporate and foundation funders as well as public Requests for Proposals (RFPs). 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to create annual reports, 990s, and other necessary documents to ensure the organization secures the highest philanthropic ratings with external agencies. 
  • Act as a liaison with relevant City of New York government agencies to maintain an ongoing relationship between the city and the organization for both capital and annual funding. 
  • Represent the department at fundraising events.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in grant writing and institutional giving, performing arts fundraising experience highly preferred. 
  • Proven track record of successfully securing large grants from institutional funders. 
  • Deep knowledge of institutional fundraising landscape and related local/national trends.  
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with institutional donors and key stakeholders. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives, proposals, and reports. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with outstanding attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and fundraising databases; Tessitura preferred.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. 

Compensation & Benefits:
In addition to a competitive salary of $90,000 to $110,000 annually, our client offers a full benefits package including vacation, medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance and long-term disability coverage upon eligibility.
