Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for a Senior Payroll Specialist on behalf of our client, a nonprofit creative arts center based in Los Angeles, CA. This is a hybrid, contract-to-hire opportunity that has the potential to turn into an amazing permanent position for the right candidate!
OVERVIEW:
The Sr. Payroll Specialist position is responsible for the coordination of payroll processing operations overseen by the Payroll Specialist. Ensures accurate calculation of wages, tax withholding, and company deductions. Ensures payroll records are updated and reports on any matters of interest. Prepares statistical reports on employee pay, commissions and bonuses; vacation, sick, disability and workers compensation leave; taxes, withholding, etc. Provide training to team and department supervisors on policies, regulations, and timekeeping processes. Assists team members with resolving errors or responding to inquiries.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that payroll is processed, completed on time, and adheres to all payroll deadlines on weekly basis. Review payroll batches, post all reports and distribute all appropriate payroll notifications. Assist payroll specialist during heavy payroll cycles.
- Audit and approve all Payroll Specialist entries (New hires, rehires and status changes) including weekly union check requests, garnishments and varies reports.
- Maintain all levels of confidentiality especially with sensitive payroll information.
- Assist Payroll Manager with weekly and monthly tasks i.e. all garnishments, new hire reporting, monthly union reports or any requested payroll reports as needed.
- Other duties or projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience required.
- Strong supervisory and team coordination skills.
- Proficiency with in-house payroll procedures and experience managing 401(k) and/or 403(b) contributions.
- Strong customer service skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with payroll platforms such as Great Plains, Paychex, and/or ADP.
- Knowledge of FLSA and California wage and hour laws.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This position offers an hourly pay rate of $36-$38.50, a monthly technology stipend, medical, dental, vision and voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week. An employee retirement plan is also available.
