Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions for our Seattle-and Bellevue-based synagogue.
In this role, the Senior Accountant will report directly to the Director of Finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Senior Accountant responsibilities include:
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- Verifying, allocating, posting and reconciling accounts payable and receivable
- Analyzing financial information and summarizing financial status
- Review and approve semi-monthly payroll
- Track and maintain fixed asset schedules and spending
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Coordinate with Director of Finance and Executive Director to improve financial procedures
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience as a Senior Accountant
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as applied to nonprofit organizations
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills required
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages. MIP and Paylocity experience preferred, but not required
- Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
- Familiarity with financial accounting statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or other relevant discipline preferred
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This opportunity offers a competitive salary range of $75-90K annually, and a comprehensive benefits package, including vacation (15 days to start), holidays (9 holidays plus up to 7 Jewish holidays off, depending on the calendar), and sick leave; health, vision, dental and short-term disability insurance paid by employer; long term disability available through payroll deduction; flexible spending account and 403b plan with employer matching.
