Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Animal Shelter Director for a shelter group in Springfield, MA! This is a wonderful full-time, direct-hire, onsite opportunity. Relocation package available.


SCHEDULE:  Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Sunday 9am-5pm. However, you must be willing to work the rare occasional irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversees and evaluates adoption center programs, including animal care, intake, adoptions, behavior, veterinary services, and community support initiatives.
  • Builds strong partnerships with other departments to foster teamwork and align organizational goals.
  • Ensures accessible, inclusive services for clients and the community, emphasizing high-quality customer service through proper training and resources.
  • Manages the adoption center budget with the finance team, addressing financial variances as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends in animal welfare and sheltering.
  • Oversees record-keeping, compliance, and data reporting, analyzing trends to improve operations.
  • Monitors cleanliness, sanitation, and proper usage of equipment and care areas.
  • Collaborates with animal welfare organizations, partners, and agencies to develop impactful programs.
  • Communicates key updates to leadership regarding staff, clients, volunteers, and partners.
  • Ensures job descriptions, performance evaluations, and HR practices comply with laws and support staff development.
  • Identifies efficiencies, adjusts procedures, and implements improvements in collaboration with leadership.
  • Resolves client concerns and maintains a safe environment for staff, volunteers, clients, and animals.
  • Updates and enforces standard operating procedures to align with organizational policies.
  • Represents the organization professionally, providing excellent service to clients, volunteers, donors, and staff.
     
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Animal Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive leadership experience in animal welfare.
  • Experience managing diverse teams, budgets, and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare best practices, shelter operations, and community support programs.
  • Must be able to work safely around unruly, sick, injured, or aggressive animals and recognize the associated risks.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage budgets, analyze data, and create actionable strategies based on trends.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and resolve conflicts.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to shelter operations and animal care.
  • Proficiency in software tools, including Microsoft Office and shelter management systems.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This exciting career opportunity allows you to work with a passionate and thriving team! The salary range for this role is $75,000-$80,000yr. You will also be able to receive a comprehensive benefits package.
