Scion Staffing is currently seeking a Nonprofit Controller for an impactful nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting the Jewish community! This exciting full-time, direct-hire position offers the opportunity to join a close-knit team!
 
OVERVIEW: 
The Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring all financial activities are accurately managed and reported.

This leadership position requires sound judgment and decision-making to maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and federal regulations. 
As a member of the leadership team, the Controller will direct the accounting department, manage the organization’s financial records, and oversee budgeting and reporting processes. This includes meeting tax obligations, preparing financial updates, and ensuring reports are completed on time.  
 
JOB DUTIES: 
  • Generating financial reports that comply with nonprofit GAAP standards. 
  • Maintaining and improving the accounting systems. 
  • Developing budgets and providing performance reports. 
  • Supervising and training accounting staff. 
  • Supporting other departments with financial needs. 
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring effective and timely completion of their tasks. 
  • Oversee month-end financial closings and reconciliations to support accurate decision-making. 
  • Prepare financial reports, including monthly statements, budget performance reviews, and key performance indicators. 
  • Act as the main point of contact for external auditors during the annual audit. 
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax filing requirements. 
  • Prepare annual financial statements and other required filings. 
  • Collaborate with departments to create budgets and financial forecasts. 
  • Manage cash flow and balances. 
  • Draft and maintain the organization’s Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual. 
  • Evaluate financial systems and processes, identifying areas for improvement. 
  • Work closely with the COO and CEO on financial matters, providing additional support as needed. 
  • Partner with the COO to staff and prepare reports for financial committees and the Board of Directors. 
  • Recruit, train, and manage a Finance and Accounting team of approximately three staff members. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • A master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred. 
  • CPA certification preferred.  
  • Extensive progressive accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, with prior leadership roles. 
  • Expertise in GAAP and restricted fund accounting. 
  • Familiarity with MIP Accounting Software is a plus. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities. 
  • A strong work ethic and flexibility to adapt as needed. 
 
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: 
In addition to being part of an organization with a fantastic mission and positive, team-oriented culture, the annual salary for this role ranges from $115-135K, depending on experience plus a benefits package including 401k + matching, PTO, paid time off for national holidays and Jewish holidays, medical/dental/vision insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, and more!
