Scion Nonprofit Staffing www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com ) has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an Interim Director of Marketing and Communications (Nonprofit) to join our partner, an established nonprofit in the Bay Area! This fully remote, interim position offers competitive pay and the chance to support an organization advocating for statewide education opportunities!

The ideal candidate for this role will be a senior-level professional with experience crafting strategic and measurable marketing and communication plans that support organizational objectives in collaboration with various teams. They will oversee efforts to foster strong community and media relations through print, digital, and social media channels, and manage daily marketing initiatives to ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities and mission.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Collaborate with leadership to support and execute an annual marketing plan that enhances visibility, supports programs, promotes equity, and fosters philanthropy.
  • Partner with relevant departments to drive growth through strategic initiatives in programming, fundraising, and outreach.
  • Develop and oversee brand voice and consistency across all communications.
  • Lead rebranding efforts and manage marketing material production and budgets.
  • Support program communications and fundraising, creating digital and print content.
  • Manage the website, social media presence, and track analytics to increase engagement.
  • Oversee publications, newsletters, and event materials, ensuring brand alignment.
  • Supervise design, production, and distribution of marketing collateral.
  • Pitch media stories, organize events, and track media coverage.
  • Cultivate media relationships and respond to inquiries.
  • Plan and execute events that promote organizational initiatives and improve public perception.
  • Contribute to planning and strategic committees with leadership.
  • Manage the communications calendar, vendors, and external consultants.
  • Supervise staff, including administrative support, and assist with budgeting.
  • Prepare materials for leadership and Board meetings, and maintain media relations.
  • Conduct outreach research and ensure timely communication reporting.
 
What You Have to Offer
  • Strong, proven experience in creating and executing successful marketing and communications strategies within the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft compelling content.
  • In-depth knowledge of nonprofit marketing best practices, including social media and website management.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage diverse stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Creative and strategic in raising organizational visibility and supporting partners and grantees.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining media relationships, with a strong understanding of the local media landscape.
  • Familiarity with the humanities, cultural organizations, libraries, nonprofits, or educational institutions is a plus.
  • Ability to balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and independent, with a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
 
Compensation & Additional Details
This interim, fully remote opportunity offers an hourly range of $43-47/hr. In addition, this role offers medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week. An employee retirement plan is also available.
