POSITION OVERVIEW:
The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and is the highest-ranking executive in the organization, responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and operational management of the professional trade association. We’re seeking an engaging CEO bringing excitement and energy to empower this gold star team to continue to succeed as the top provider in the country in this trade focus!

This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors, members, and stakeholders to advance this thriving association's mission, vision, and goals. The CEO will serve as the primary representative and advocate for the association, fostering relationships that promote the industry's growth, sustainability, and success. The ideal candidate brings passion, energy, and the ability to inspire and empower a high-performing team while expanding the association’s membership, partnerships, and impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership and Organizational Growth

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan to advance the association's mission, ensuring alignment with the needs of members and industry trends.
  • Champion the longstanding legacy and navigate the political landscape of this specialized contracting sector.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to shape policies, priorities, and initiatives that drive industry impact.
  • Provide visionary leadership to anticipate challenges and opportunities in the industry.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, governance best practices, and legal requirements.
Industry Advocacy and Government Relations
  • Act as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the association, representing members’ interests with government agencies, policymakers, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders to influence infrastructure policy and funding decisions.
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to legislative and regulatory developments impacting the industry.
  • Strengthen strategic partnerships that enhance the association’s influence and industry presence.
Member Engagement and Expansion
  • Drive membership growth across California, using persuasive and relationship-building skills.
  • Ensure members receive valuable services, resources, and networking opportunities.
  • Expand education, training, and workforce development programs to support industry professionals.
  • Ensure the association addresses the evolving needs of its diverse membership base.
Operational Excellence & Financial Sustainability
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the association, including staff oversight, budget management, and program execution.
  • Evaluate organizational performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities, including sponsorships, partnerships, and grants, to enhance association programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure operational efficiency, implementing best practices for association management and technology-driven solutions in a time of vast change in the industry and technology.
Board Collaboration and Leadership Development
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure alignment of strategic priorities and governance.
  • Provide regular performance updates, industry insights, and key recommendations.
  • Continue to develop the internal staffing structure, fostering leadership growth through mentorship and empowerment.
  • Support the Board’s efforts to fulfill its fiduciary and governance responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPA, or related field) preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience, ideally in a trade association, construction, contracting, or related industry
  • Ability to envision and execute membership growth, continue to build out internal staffing structure including speaking, sharing and mentorship.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing teams, budgets, and complex organizational operations.
  • Knowledge of union collective bargaining and experience in labor negotiations.
  • Experience in public policy advocacy and government relations is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This full-time onsite role is open to candidates who can reside permanently in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role offers a base salary of $300,000 to $325,000+ (DOE) plus a performance bonus, plus a comprehensive benefits package and a high-impact leadership role in a prestigious association.

TRAVEL:
This role requires occasional regional and national travel to attend events, meet with stakeholders, and conduct outreach efforts. Candidates should be able to travel without restrictions.
