Scion Nonprofit Staffing an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Finance for a prominent nonprofit performing arts organization based in New York, NY. This full-time position presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance leader to oversee and optimize financial operations in a dynamic and creative environment.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance will manage the financial operations of a $29 million budget for a renowned theater company. This role involves overseeing operating and investment funds, developing cash management strategies, and providing timely financial reporting to all departments. The successful candidate will work closely with executive staff and the Board of Directors, reporting directly to the Executive Director and managing a team of three in the Business Department, with additional oversight of two in the Technology Department.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Operations and Reporting
  • Manage accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow.
  • Maintain accurate financial statements, forecasts, and budget reports in accordance with nonprofit GAAP.
  • Oversee revenue recognition, tracking, and prepare supporting information for annual audits.
  • Manage relationships with financial institutions and oversee credit lines.

Board and Committee Liaison
  • Serve as staff representative to Board Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees.
  • Provide quarterly financial performance reports and respond to inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director on financial materials for Board review.

Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure recordkeeping complies with applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain corporate insurance portfolio, including D&O, E&O, and property coverage.
  • Guarantee full compliance with grant requirements, funder covenants, and governmental regulations.

Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for enhancing productivity, quality, and customer service.
  • Implement cost reduction and systems enhancement initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 7-10 years of experience in a similar large institutional theater or performing arts organization.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with creative and non-financial teams to support organizational objectives.
  • Proficiency in GAAP, particularly in nonprofit revenue recognition.
  • Expertise in financial planning, analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate financial information effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with policy development and fiscal control measures.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains accounting software and Tessitura is a plus.
  • Proven success in fostering a collaborative work environment and implementing process improvements within finance and accounting functions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
In addition to a competitive salary of $165,000 annually, our client offers a full benefits package including vacation, medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance and long-term disability coverage upon eligibility.
