Scion Executive Search has been engaged to identify an exceptional Major Gifts Officer to spearhead comprehensive fundraising initiatives for our client, a leading nonprofit healthcare organization. This pivotal leadership position represents an outstanding opportunity for an experienced development professional to make a transformative impact on the organization's mission and the communities it serves.

The Major Gifts Officer will be a senior member of the development team, working closely with leadership and development team members to lead the planning, implementation, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts in the five to seven-figure range. This role manages a portfolio of 75-100 individual and family foundation relationships with deep connections to the organization.

This full-time, permanent leadership role is available for immediate hire and will be based at the organization's office in Cleveland, Ohio. The Major Gifts Officer will serve as a key strategic partner, fostering strong collaborative relationships across multiple departments, including clinical and program teams, finance leadership, and both foundation and operating Boards of Directors.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the CEO, the Major Gifts Officer will create and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to achieve annual goals, including a $25 million capital campaign and $1.5 million in annual fundraising. This position is responsible for growing annual support and raising funds for organization-wide strategic initiatives, events, and endowed funds.

The Major Gifts Officer will implement effective moves management systems, manage the annual budget, and provide support for Foundation meetings and retreats. This role requires exceptional relationship-building skills and the ability to develop compelling cases for support that align donor interests with organizational priorities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the creation of all major gift fundraising strategies and activities to achieve annual fundraising goals.
  • Work with multiple high-level stakeholders to develop compelling cases for support and proposals.
  • Utilize the Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform and develop a comprehensive moves management system.
  • Strategize with key project staff members to identify annual operating, programmatic, and capital needs as prioritized by the agency.
  • Continually identify new grateful family members whose funding priorities match the organization's needs annually; develop the strategy for initial approach, cultivation, and proposal submissions.
  • Coordinate donor meetings, site visits and tours including the creation of agendas, preparation, and talking points for organizational leadership.
  • Coordinate with project, program, and team leaders to develop accurate and persuasive narratives, budgets, and outcome measures.
  • In partnership with the marketing team, develop and implement strategies for regular donor communication and engagement which may include mailings and events.
  • Support all aspects of the development in team planning and goal-setting sessions, prospect management, proofreading and review, working at events, and reporting to management and the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced and resourceful nonprofit development leader who is highly collaborative, strategic, and passionate about healthcare. A strong candidate for this role is an experienced fundraiser with excellent communication skills and a proven track record of securing major gifts.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; CFRE or advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years in fundraising, including a proven track record in five-figure gifts.
  • Experience in planned giving and managerial track record.
  • Proven track record in stewardship and process, follow through, and processing more than 10,000 gifts/year.
  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and confidently with senior leadership and clinical teams.
  • Collaborative managerial style and experience developing and promoting direct reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to development colleagues, donors, volunteers, clinicians, and staff.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, good judgment, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and techniques; experience with capital campaigns highly preferred.
  • Deep familiarity with the Cleveland philanthropic landscape including individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Highly proficient at Microsoft suite of products, donor tracking software, and moves management.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This role offers an exciting opportunity with a competitive salary ranging from $100,000 to $130,000, depending on experience.
