Scion Executive Search (SES) has been retained to conduct a search for an Executive Director on behalf of our unparalleled client, Family Violence Appellate Project, the first-ever non-profit organization in California and Washington state dedicated to providing free appellate representation to survivors of domestic violence and gender-based abuse. The incoming Executive Director will lead this exciting resource and social justice movement for gender-based violence survivors and advocates into the future!
ABOUT FAMILY VIOLENCE APPELLATE PROJECT:
Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP) is dedicated to working to end domestic violence and gender-based abuse by creating a robust, influential body of case law to change how courts throughout two states respond to survivors and their children. FVAP shapes the law to prioritize the safety of survivors and children by representing clients in appellate courts, submitting amicus curiae briefs in cases of statewide importance, requesting publication of important cases, and engaging in legislative and systems change advocacy efforts.
With an extremely diverse list of clientele, FVAP is a proponent of gender and racial justice, aiming to serve individuals and advocates throughout California and Washington states, including rural, suburban, and urban populations from the most marginalized communities. They also support a statewide network of gender-based violence and legal aid service providers by providing training, technical assistance, and written informational materials, and by facilitating information exchange among statewide stakeholders supporting survivors. POSITION OVERVIEW:
FVAP is seeking a social justice minded individual committed to working on behalf of survivors of gender-based violence and their children. They will be a bold thinker who’s passionate about systems change and a skilled communicator who can inspire people to join their movement. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will bring a vast array of skills, experiences, and viewpoints to aid and serve FVAP’s diverse communities and compassionately lead and empower a mid-sized nonprofit team of 18, which consists of program, administrative, finance, development, and communication staff to ensure a strong organizational infrastructure.
FVAP’s offices are located in Oakland, California, convenient to multiple bus lines and BART, and in Seattle, Washington. They are currently operating under a hybrid work environment, working in the office at least one day a week, with the remainder remotely. Some driving and interstate travel may be required.
